When we were still newlyweds, my husband had an idea about kayaking, he suggested that maybe we could enjoy it as a hobby. I was so excited and took the challenge of venturing into uncharted waters, therefore we decided to take some kayak classes. I feel relaxed when I’m in water, swimming at sea and even scuba diving. I changed my mind after our second meet with the kayak instructor. The session was about what to do if the boat turned over leaving you upside down. The thought of it already frightened me. Although, same as a duck that belongs in water, my husband was very in to it.

Therefore, every river where people go kayaking, we also went. He loves the adrenaline rush that’s why the more the rapids, the better.I settled for dropping him off and picking him up downstream. I was really OK with it. While waiting in the car surrounded by the woods, I could read a book or just relax, or I could get out of the car, go hiking and observe the local animals and greeneries along the way. It worked for us both ways, so our car was full of anything we needed, lunch, clothing and gears. My husband was a photographer like me. Each of us had our own camera equipment, complete with accessories, and we all brought it along during our trips.

A buddy of his was also convinced by my husband to try kayaking as well.This friend was one of the most-not-so-outdoorsy- people I have ever known. On the other hand, he wanted to try something different. He became skillful in handling the kayak, did well in the flipping and maneuvering.On the first trip out, however, it was a different story. What happened was he got stuck while the kayak was upside down. He got tangled in some branches and could not flip the boat back up.

My husband was watching him all the time and when he noticed the boat he was in didn’t flip back up immediately, that meant trouble, so my husband made his way under the water and pulled him up. He had a second chance in life and was very grateful of what my husband did.And, I might add, the next day, he put an ad in the paper ‘kayak for sale’.We had a lot of wonderful adventures in those days and many photographs to remind us of the places we have been.

As we have moved forward in our lives and activities, so has technology. We may have stopped with our kayaking adventures, but we still go out for a hike and do our photography. Years before, it became kind of a habit, however burdensome it may be, to bring all our photo equipments complete with all its accessories when we go out on a hike.And these days, we also have our cell phones and Blackberries, and extra stuff, too.
