How The Modern Rocking Chair Came To Be
Chairs as we know is a raised surface that we use to sit on usually for only one person at a time. There are so many different types of chairs depending on the specific use of the chair. There are regular plastic or metal chairs, car seats, chairs with wheels attached to them called wheel chairs and so on.
When a chair is designed to be longer so that it can hold more than one occupant comes under various names such as sofas, settees and even a “loveseat” We can see that the design of the chair is intrinsic to the culture that they come from. There are chairs that have spacious and ventilated back rests and some others are designed to be portable.
Chairs have been around since the beginning of civilization and the basic concept of sitting on a raised platform can be seen in just about every civilization. But what is interesting is that almost all of them treated the chair with the same attitude that is something that needs to be respected and feared, because it represented power and authority. We still remnants of that in our daily vocabulary, with words like, chairman and chairperson.
As far as Europe goes it was not until the renaissance that the chair slowly became a common and acceptable item for most people. The attitude began to change and the idea was that if you could afford one you could buy and own one. With that attitude change the chair slowly became a widely used and accepted piece of furniture.
Of course nowadays the chair is seen and used every where to the point that we don’t even notice them, unless of course they are made to look different than other more ordinary chairs. One such chair is the modern rocking chair. The old concept of a chair that you can rock back and forth in is rejuvenated and designed to fit in with modern surroundings.
